February 24, 2022 Update
Friends, family, kind strangers – it's a sad day around the world, especially in Ukraine.
Truly, the words I need escape me. As I'm sure you are well aware, Russ*a is in the midst of a full-scale invasion and war in Ukraine. I knew something was off in my spirit last night, so I ended up staying awake praying and worshiping. I was awake at 4:00 am when reports started coming in of attacks, explosions, and war. It is a night I will never forget.
Tonight, less than 24 hours later I am devastated. I've only known war from a safe distance, today that changed. People are afraid and we really do not know how the coming hours, days, and weeks will play out.
I have decided with much prayer, discernment, and wise counsel that I will remain in western Ukraine to serve and protect the children at the orphanage as best as I can. I do not want to be a burden, so I knew I would only stay if there were ways for me to help. While discussing with the orphanage director, he confirmed that there are more children on their way to the already nearly full orphanage and they will in fact need help. So I will stay and I will help. The tentative plan is that I will leave my apartment for some time and move either to the orphanage or somewhere nearby so I can help care for the children daily.
I remain in close partnership with Clinton and Lena with Shade for Children – together we will support these children to the best of our ability and hopefully, with your help. We do anticipate the need for additional food, clean water, and protection for these children. I've already spoken with the director of The Cause and they are strategizing ways we can get any funds raised to us here in Ukraine.
If you want to help feel free to give at the link below. And of course, pray for Ukraine. Pray for the Ukrainian military – they are fighting this war without any NATO support, and they are fighting hard. Pray for the thousands of people who are already displaced. Pray for wisdom for those of us trying to help.
If you want to follow the events as they unfold, I recommend Kyiv Independent. Great, on-the-ground reporting.
I am trying to do frequent updates on my Instagram, so that will be the quickest way to hear from me right now!
Thank you for your love, support, and prayers – it is felt.
with love,
Lina
